The Next Big Adventure…

As the new year looms, like tonight…I would like to expose my new adventure for the New Year! It is still in progress and I have not yet set a firm opening date, due to the fact that I don’t have a front door.

You say what?

Right. Here it is. I am opening a store. That’s right! It’s a little store. It’s in my house, so I can be close to where I love to be and still sell my stuff year round! I am pretty excited 🙂 It will be called Dragonfly Dreams Gift Shoppe.

I was going to open a retail location in the city of Campbell River, but I am having a hard time finding the perfect spot, and the timing just doesn’t feel right for that right now, so I am going to start out this way and see how it goes!

We have been working in dribs and drabs, it was a busy craft fair season, and my carpenter is working full time, so trying to squeeze putting another entrance in our house has been a slow going affair. I hope to be open by the middle to end of January, and at this point if you need anything you are welcome to get a hold of me and come by any time, as it does resemble a store and things are coming together!

I am working like mad to get lots of stock built up, I have a great selection of lotions, and I am waiting impatiently for my soy to arrive and I will soon have more soy candles in some new and groovy scents! I have many many ideas of things to build and sew and crochet and some cool stuff made with wood, these will be a surprise! I also have a huge stock of my new Mommy’s Belly Butter, so if you know anyone that needs a little tummy love while carrying their wee one, send them over!

The facebook page is up and running, so follow the progress by liking us here. The website is also live but will be updated far more as time goes by! You can take a peek at

I am looking forward to this so much, and I hope you can all stop by and say hi! I will post pics on facebook and keep you up to date on what is going on, so be sure to like the page to stay in the loop and of course keep up with whatever shenanigans go down in the process of our renovation and soon to be opening!!

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

How it began…

From an early age, I remember being entranced with my mothers stuff. She used to let me go into their room and play alone…we lived in a tiny 600 square foot house ( which I lived in several more times in my life, once with my own children.)

It was small, seriously.

I never realized until a few years ago what a gift she was giving me letting me have that time alone with her things. I remember as a kid, always wanting to be grown up. I loved dreaming of one day having all of my own stuff that would make me feel as beautiful as I thought she was. I loved her jewelry, her dippity do, her old fashioned pink hair dryer with the plastic cap that was attached to the hose, that I used to be allowed to dry my goldilocks with. I cherished that time alone in her room, and it is still one of my clearest, happiest memories. And luckily I have many.

A lot of my childhood, I never really felt like a girl. I grew up in a family with all boys, and playing in the dirt, running around barefoot and being dirty was just what we did. In my adult life that hasn’t changed much. I have three boys, and my brother has two. There is a lot of snot and bad language, laughter and…dirt. Oh, and I work in a garden center. Nuff said.

I still have days when I am more of a tomboy than a girl, but as I pass on by 50, I have learned that taking time to take care of myself and make myself feel beautiful has become more of a priority.

I have also tried to become more conscious of what I put on and into my body. So using things that I can make myself has always appealed to me.

Over the years I have tried to make my own soap, like from scratch. It has never really worked out for me, I never really got the hang of the lye or maybe past the terror of burning my eyes out in a typical Donna moment. And the waiting…weeks of waiting. I am not good at waiting, I want instant gratification. I do indeed make a killer melt and pour soap though…

I have always adored lotion, I have spent thousands of dollars trying to find that perfect lotion…you know the one that smells amazing and makes your skin feel like a baby’s butt. Finally, I was on Pinterest one day and I found a recipe for homemade lotion.

Monster created.

I have over the last year made gallons of lotion. I have botched many of those gallons, and had to throw it all away. There is no way to fix a botched batch, trust me on that one.

I have learned that you cannot make a water based lotion without a small amount of preservative, or it will indeed grow science class things in it that you do NOT want to put on your skin.

I have finally found a happy place, with amazing smells like lemongrass, amber, lavender and patchouli and smooth, soft skin that stays that way all day long.

My facial cream has made me clean out my cupboard and throw everything else away. I am 50. I need as much help as I can create. My skin is smooth and soft, and my breakouts are few and far between.

I love making lotion. I love the the satisfaction I get from creating a product that is fabulous. It took me a long time, lots of trial and error and many nights waking up at 2 am with another brilliant idea brewing as I slept. I think I have finally got it.

I hope you love the new line of lotion as much as I do. If you ever have any concerns or questions, give me a shout on facebook or by email. Making my lotion has never been a one man show and I appreciate your honesty and suggestions about how to make it even better.

Here’s to being a soft, awesome smelling tomboy xox

The Benefits Of Using Essential Oils…

Essential Oils

Essential oils have been part of my life since as far back as I can remember. I am a smells girl. I love things to smell amazing and I know that with me, scent can totally change how I am feeling and help me to relax.

Over the years of searching for products that will make my skin amazing, without all the chemicals and additives that our world is full of now, I have found a core group of oils that are a staple in my life, I use these oils in the lotion I make and have found my skin to be healthier than it ever has been.

Here are my favorites and a small description of each…
Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender essential oil is one of my favorites — it smells amazing, helps you relax and de-stress is great  for the skin. It helps regenerate skin cells so it is fabulous for mature skin, sun spots, and scarring. It is a great oil for all skin types and needs.

Patchouli Essential Oil

Patchouli essential oil is particularly beneficial to aging skin. It promotes new cell growth and smooths the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Yay!! It also has antiseptic, antifungal, and antibacterial properties, which helps heal skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and acne. And mixed properly with other great oils, this is my go to fragrance right now!!
Tea Tree Essential Oil
Tea tree essential oil is a popular essential oil for acne-prone skin. Its antibacterial properties help fight off acne-causing bacteria. It also helps to regulate oil production, which can decrease the severity and frequency of breakouts.
Geranium Essential Oil
Geranium essential oil helps regulate oil production and reduces acne breakouts. It also helps improve skin elasticity and tighten skin, reducing wrinkles, again…yay! It helps promotes blood circulation where it is applied, helping to heal bruises, broken capillaries, burns, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, ringworm, and other skin conditions. It pretty nearly a perfect oil!
Lemongrass Essential Oil
Lemongrass essential oil is a wonderful natural astringent and antibacterial. As such, it is extremely beneficial to those with oily and acne-prone complexions. It also tones and will help to reduce the appearance of large pores.  It will also help relieve stress and improve concentration and the fragrance is absolutely heavenly!!

Note: Lemongrass can cause photo-toxicity (sun sensitivity) in people with sensitive skin.

Our lotion includes these great oils to help make your skin as healthy and soft as it can be, the natural way…

Thanks for stopping in! Cheers 🙂
